The Maldives, or MDV for short, is a stunning archipelago in the Indian Ocean that is about 740km southwest from Sri Lanka.

MDV is the official country code for the republic, which is home to some 521,000 people and receives more than 1.5 million tourists each year.

MDV comprises some 1,190 islands making up 26 atolls, stretching across 644km of pristine coastline.
